The authorities release the JEE Advanced exam pattern along with the official brochure. With the help of the pattern, aspirants can get an idea on the JEE Advanced question paper structure. The exam patterns below help candidates understand the variations between JEE Advanced Paper 1 and Paper 2.
The test will only be administered online that is, via a computer-based platform.
Two papers total: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Every paper willast three hours, all applicants have to take both tests. The test will, therefore, last six hours overall.
The exam langtages will be English and Hindi. Candidates choose any of the two.
Every year, the test marks system changes. Consequently, the part of the test paper dedicated to Instructions to Candidates will provide directions on the marking system.
Both examinations will have three separate portions covering physics, maths, and chemistry.

The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these five categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.
Solving previous year question papers is vital for understanding the exam pattern and question complexity. Papers from past years (2025, 2024, etc.) are available for free download on https://jeeadv.ac.in.
Attempting the JEE Advanced mock test will help candidates come across questions with varied difficulty levels and types that will help them improve their speed and accuracy. As the exam is conducted online, students must attempt JEE Advanced mock tests online.
The exam conducting IIT releases the JEE Advanced answer keys a few days after the exam. Along with the answer key, JEE Advanced response sheet is also made available for candidates. The official JEE Advanced answer key, response sheet and JEE Advanced question papers will be all uploaded at jeeadv.ac.in..
The answer key and response sheet can be accessed by the candidates' respective logins, and the question papers can be downloaded as PDFs from the website.

Students must start their JEE Advanced preparation early. It will help them complete and revise the syllabus timely, and appear for the mock tests. Next, prepare a suitable timetable and stick to it throughout the preparation. Try to cover the entire syllabus.
Students must have an in-depth understanding of all the basic as well as advanced concepts. It can be done by solving questions regularly. Maintain good health and mental stability. JEE preparation can be stressful. Take time off or breaks between study hours and relax.
