The English & Foreign Languages University (EFLU), established in 1958 as the Central Institute of English (CIE) in Hyderabad, is a prestigious institution dedicated to the study of English and foreign languages. Initially envisioned by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to enhance English language and literary studies, EFLU has grown significantly over the years. It was renamed the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) in 1972, incorporating German, French, and Russian. In 1973, it gained 'deemed to be a university' status and expanded with campuses in Shillong and Lucknow. In 2006-2007, it became a Central University, known as EFLU. The university offers training in 10 foreign languages: Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Chinese, German, Persian, Japanese, and Italian. EFLU has 3 campuses (Hyderabad, Lucknow, Shillong) and offers programs like M.A. in English, PGCTE, and PGDTE, with specializations in Linguistics, Mass Communication, Critical Humanities, Psychology, and Liberal Arts. The university has a strong placement cell that bridges students with top recruiters, ensuring a high placement rate and providing career guidance. EFLU is recognized by UGC-DEB and accredited by NAAC with an 'A' Grade.
