MAT vs CAT: Which MBA Entrance Should You Choose?
Confused between MAT and CAT? Here’s a quick comparison of both exams — their pattern, difficulty, and best-fit colleges for MBA aspirants.
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by IIMs once a year. It’s one of India’s toughest exams and is accepted by top institutes like IIMs, FMS, and MDI for MBA and PGDM programs.
The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is conducted by AIMA four times a year. It’s easier than CAT and is accepted by 800+ B-schools like Amity, BIMTECH, and XIME.
CAT is held once a year in online mode.
MAT is held four times a year and can be taken online or offline, giving more flexibility to candidates.
CAT has 3 sections – VARC, DILR, and Quant, and runs for 120 minutes.
MAT has 5 sections – Language, Maths, Reasoning, Data Analysis, and GK, lasting 150 minutes.
CAT is tougher, testing deep concepts and speed. Only top performers make it to IIMs.
MAT is moderately difficult and ideal for those seeking good B-schools without extreme competition.
CAT: Minimum 50% marks in graduation (45% for reserved). Fee ~₹2,300.
MAT: Any graduate can apply. Fee ~₹1,950 for one mode or ₹3,100 for two modes.
